February 15: What is on the Horizon for Oregon Election Reforms

Thursday, February 15, 2024 (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (PST)

Jim Moore, Independent Analyst and Political Outreach Director at Pacific University Tom McCall Center for Civic Engagement will discuss proposed reform/change movements Oregonians may be voting in in Fall 2024. They include Campaign Finance Reform, Independent Redistricting, Open Primaries and Ranked Choice Voting. We will explore what is different about the Oregon election system, review the initiatives being proposed and what they could mean for future Oregon elections.

Due to weather conditions, Professor Moore will join us virtually at the event.

Current ballot measures and initiatives:

Independent Redistricting

Open Primaries

Campaign Finance Reform (Petition 9 and Petition 42 & 43). IP 9 currently has 100,000 of the 117,173 signatures needed by July to qualify for the ballot.

Ranked Choice Voting

The Oregon legislature has sent a Ranked Choice Voting ballot measure to the November 2024 election. The other three initiatives are currently gathering signatures.
